Great Turnout for TV Turn-in Event
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009Who knew there were so many old TVs lurking in garages around Las Vegas? We did. And that’s why there was a terrific turnout Saturday for our Community TV Recycling event! Nearly 500 old, unused and unwanted television sets were offered up at both R.C. Willey locations - despite the cold, rainy downpours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. - to be properly recycled; kept out of the landfill and saved from being illegally shipped overseas.
Thank you Channel 8 viewers - some of you waiting an hour in line - for stepping up and doing the right thing for the environment. So many people said, “Thank you” for offering a solution to their dilemna. EPC Recycling actually offered the solution to recycle the old sets. They’re the only 100% green electronics recycler in town R.C. Willey offered their parking lots, their people and their umbrellas! Cox Communications offered information on how to make the switch to DTV. And YOU offered ten dollars for each TV, of which half went to the Teacher Exchange to help take the burden of buying school classroom supplies off of teachers. The organization raised $2500 Saturday! Those were the nice ladies and gents taking your money at your car window. They had wet feet, but grateful hearts!
It was a win, win for everyone! Since the DTV switch has been delayed until June 12, Channel 8 is considering another TV Recycling event between now and then to help other viewers who couldn’t make it out or who just didn’t want to venture out in the rain. The next one comes with sunshine! Stay tuned.
